MS ActiveSource Privacy Policy

Purpose of Privacy Policy and Notice of Information Practices

Biogen respects individual privacy and values the confidentiality of information belonging to its customers, including, physicians, health plans, patients, employees and agents and others (our “customers” or “you”).

The core mission of Biogen is to enhance the health and quality of care for its customers through superior products and service. We carry out this mission through customer relationships, where Biogen has enough information about customers like you to provide information, services and products based on an individual customer’s needs and preferences. Biogen believes that respect for your privacy is fundamental to these relationships.

This Privacy Policy and Notice of Information Practices sets forth Biogen's practices regarding the collection and disclosure of information that you may provide through this Site. Please read this information thoroughly before providing any information to Biogen through this Site.

By using this Site, you agree to the terms contained in the Privacy Policy and Notice of Information Practices below.

Information Collection

Personal Information: Biogen collects personally identifiable information, such as your name, address, or email address, only when you voluntarily submit it to us. We collect this information when you become a Site member or when you change your user preferences in “Edit Profile.” In addition, we collect information about your use of this Site, such as:

  • Session Information. We track the total number of visitors to our Site, the number of visitors to different pages of the Site, the domain names of Site users’ Internet service providers, and other information related to the performance and behavior of a given Site visit.
  • IP Address. We record the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer when you visit the Site. We use analysis software to look at IP addresses only for the purpose of enhancing your user experience. This information is not used to develop a personal profile of you and the log files are regularly purged.
  • Polls and Surveys: We sometimes offer polls and surveys on the Site. The input you provide on polls and surveys is tracked at an aggregate level, and is not personally identifiable.
  • Cookies. We also collect information about your use of the Site through cookies and similar technology. A “cookie” is a unique numeric code that we transfer to your computer so that we can keep track of your interests and preferences and recognize you as a return visitor to the Site. Cookie technology allows us to collect “clickstream” data, which reflects your activities on the Site. However, a cookie does not collect or keep your name or other personal information. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, see below.

How We Use Your Information

Biogen will not sell or share names of customers or any detailed customer information to independent companies so that those companies can solicit Biogen customers for the purpose of selling goods or services.

We use the information about your use of the services and activities on the Site to monitor user traffic patterns and try to analyze user preferences so that we can design better tailor your Site experience and customize the information provided to you by Biogen for your specific interests. For example, we collect this information and use it in the following ways:

  • Personal Information That You Have Provided. You do not have to submit your personal information to access most of the information available to you on the Site. However, if you choose to provide such information to us, we may use this information to follow up with you on specific matters or to provide you with information that you may be interested in and/or to provide you with technical assistance or to respond to your questions. If you have indicated that you are interested in receiving information about our products and services, we and companies operating on our behalf (see below) may use your data to send you this information. We also may need to send you specific administrative notices about your account, and in some cases, we may need to use the information in order to contact you if required by law.
  • IP Address. In addition to using the IP address of your computer to maintain communications with you as you move about the Site, we also may use your IP address to personalize content provided on the Site.
  • Cookies. We use the data we obtain through the use of cookies to customize your Site experience by anticipating the information and services that may be of interest to you. We also analyze the information collected with cookie technology to help us improve the functioning of the Site by monitoring traffic in popular areas and to modify the services and information we provide to meet customer demand. We use the information we collect through the use of cookies for our business purposes, including operation of the Site, as well as to conduct research and product analyses to help us better develop and market our products. We do not allow other sites or third parties to use our cookies for their own purposes or to place their own cookies on your computer when you access services through the Site.
  • Polls and Surveys: We calculate and track poll and survey results (e.g., 70 percent think they have good relationships with their doctors) to improve our site offerings based on your input about your needs and preferences. We use this information only at an aggregate level.
  • Mentor Program: The information collected under the Mentor Program is stored as part of your user profile and is used to match you with others who are expressly seeking contact with a buddy or mentor.
  • Vendors and Suppliers. We may need to provide your information to different vendors and suppliers or third party companies that help us with various aspects of the operation of our business, including the design and maintenance of our systems and our computer security, the development, promotion, marketing, sale and distribution of our products and other business related initiatives. We will not authorize our vendors and suppliers to use your information for any purpose not related to our business and such third parties shall be under strict requirements to protect the privacy of your information consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Any content you provide on the Site will be used in accordance with, and subject to, the Terms and Conditions of Use of this Site.

In addition, these vendors and agents will have to ensure the confidentiality and security of their information processing and implement adequate measures to protect this information.
  • Co-Branded Services. From time to time, we may partner with other companies to provide you with content or services on a joint or “co-branded” basis. At a co-branded site you will see both the Biogen logo and the logo of the co-branded partner displayed on your screen. To access the services available on a co-branded site, you may have to complete an on-line registration form, and this registration information may be shared with our co-branded partners. You should read the individual privacy policies of the co-branded sites, as these may differ in some respects from ours. Reading these policies will help you to make an informed decision about whether to provide your information to a given site. Remember, you may always opt-out of sharing your information with a partner site by choosing not to use the service or content provided by the co-branded site.
  • As Required by Law. In certain limited circumstances, we may be called upon to release your personally identifying information in response to a court order, subpoena, search warrant, law or regulation. We also may need to use your information to contact you if required by law. We plan to cooperate in responding to such requests, taking appropriate measures to ensure that the requester understands the sensitive nature of the information that they may receive. We also reserve the right to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in investigating and prosecuting users who violate our rules or engage in behavior that is illegal or harmful to other users of the Site.
  • Other Disclosures. Other than as disclosed in this Privacy Policy, we will not use or disclose any personally identifying information you have provided to us to an unrelated third party without your consent.
