Supporting MS Therapies
Prescription medications aren't the only way to treat MS. There are other therapies that can help people with MS stay active. Occupational therapists can teach different techniques for getting around physical disabilities. Mental health therapists and support groups help people with MS cope with depression, anxiety, and stress.
MS Physical Therapy
Special exercises and techniques can help ease the specific physical problems that people with MS often experience. A physical therapist can teach these techniques — and help with motivation, too. Regular exercise is also beneficial for overall health, and can also help with the symptoms of depression.
MS Speech Therapy
People with MS sometimes have difficulty speaking and swallowing. Speech therapy may help retrain vocal cords to speak "loud and low," making it easier to be heard.
MS Occupational Therapy
The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in everyday activities. Occupational therapists have strategies and techniques to help people adapt to living with MS. At home or at work, occupational therapists can help you gain new skills to perform daily activities and tasks more easily.
MS Psychological Therapy
People with MS may suffer from depression at some point. For emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, or stress-related issues, a mental health professional may be able to offer valuable help.
