Treatment for MS Symptoms
While so-called disease modifying treatments reduce the frequency of relapses and some may also slow the progression physical disability in MS, other therapies have been developed to manage specific symptoms of MS.
AMPYRA® (dalfampridine)
AMPYRA is a treatment to improve walking in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). This was demonstrated by an increase in walking speed.
This oral medication can be used in combination with a disease modifying therapy like the MS injections, MS infusions, and MS pills. AMPYRA is not intended to treat MS but rather prescribed to manage symptoms like difficulty walking. You should not take AMPYRA if you have a history of seizures or kidney problems.
Common Side Effects with AMPYRA® Treatment
- Urinary tract infection
- Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Weakness
- Back pain
- Problems with balance
- Multiple sclerosis relapse
- Burning, tingling or itching of the skin
- Irritation in the nose and throat
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Pain in the throat
